FEATURED PROJECT
Making a Splash
Redesigning the website of our country’s most beloved theme and water park
Project Overview
Built in 1946 and located in a special town called Santa Claus, Indiana, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari is considered the world’s first theme park. It is a tourist destination that attracts families and roller coaster lovers from all around the country.
When DBS Interactive won the bid to build Holiday World’s new website, I led the initial requirements gathering, crafted a custom content strategy, created SEO briefs to inform keyword-rich content, and completed on-page optimizations. Not surprisingly, the hope with the new website was for users to be able to easily browse rides, shows, and special events at the theme park while providing users quick access to ticket purchasing and park information. But this is Holiday World we are talking about, so it had to be fun.

Mega Menu
Simplifying Navigation
To improve the ease of navigating the website and park, we built a robust architecture that was contained within a mega menu. This made it easy for guests to reach every important page on the website within a couple of clicks.

Custom Taxonomies
Rides & Slides
One of the primary user stories we identified early in development was guests using the website to learn about rides, attractions and shows. To streamline this user experience, I recommended a taxonomy structure to be used as filters that included ride type, park section, and experience.
Staying on brand, the taxonomy for Ride Experience introduced a little fun into this experience by featuring a custom intensity scale: Child, Mild and Wild.
